From: Meg! Date: May27, 2003 I would like to thank all of you for writing to me this year! I would like to appologize for how late some of my e-mails were but I had the wrong address when I sent them so they never got to you. I'm sorry! I hope everyone has enjoyed doing their investigations and is looking forward to KIC tomorrow. I am so excited about meeting everyone and seeing your presentations. I'll see all of you tomorrow! Thank you again. Meg |
| From: Katie, Ms. Parrish's class, Piney Ridge Elementary Date: April 30, 2003 Time: 5:54pm Dear Meg, I haven't done much research yet, but the stars appear to move, but it takes thousands of years for them to move. Well, I got my insperation from a book named The Same Stuff As Stars. It's a fiction book about a girl who meets a man which turns out to be her great uncle or plain uncle and he teaches her about the stars. I have it reccomended on the KIC website. -Katie- Meg Answers: Dear Katie, Thank you for writing to me! What a great topic to be studying! Have you always been facinated with watching the stars? How did you come up with that question? I am very anxious to hear about your observations. I have never thought about the concepts of stars "moving". When you do discover something please write back and keep me informed. Good luck with your investigation! -Meg |

From: Karina, Wellwood School Date: April 29, 2003 Time: 4:00pm My first question is what is a polymer? My second question is is it fun at KIC? This is my first time at KIC and I don't know what to expect. My science club teacher, Mrs. Lobe says you are a great example of what we should be at KIC. Thank you! Meg Answers: Karina, Are you getting excited about the conference yet? I've been looking forward to it all year and I'm thrilled to be apart of it. To answer your first question when my group and I started investigating polymers we were not sure what they were exactly, but we were determined to find out. We read many books and figured out that not only was the gooey and squishy substance fun but it is very useful. All plastics are polymers like milk jugs and contact lenses etc. To answer your second question KIC is very fun! When you first come in I will greet you and give you a name tag and for the rest of the day you will go to different sessions, meet lots of new people, and investigate in the hands on room. What are you investigating? How are your investigations coming along? Are you presenting at the conference or do you have a hands-on table? I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for writing. From: Cody, Wellwood School Date: April 22, 2003 Time: 6:13pm What does a polymer do? I'm going to KIC this year. Meg Answers: Dear Cody, Are you getting excited about the Kid's Inquiry Conference yet? I sure am! To answer your question when my group and I started investigating polymers we weren't sure what they were. We knew that they were gooey, smily and fun and we wanted to learn a lot about them. We discovered that all plastics are polymers so milk jugs, contact lenses, etc are polymers. I hope that maybe someone is investigating them this year. What are you investigating? I look forward to seeing you at the conference! Thank you for writing. Meg |

From: Laura, Mr. Pearce's class, Sandymount Elementary Date: April 2, 2003 Time: 6:06pm What question did you ask at KIC? Meg Answers: Dear Laura, When I was in KIC I researched Polymers with three other boys in my class. Originally we just wanted to know what a polymer is, but that led to many more questions like: What can you use them for? Can they help in an oil spill or volcano? What is your question for KIC? Are you having fun experimenting with your topic? I would love to hear what you have been doing! Hope to hear from you soon! Meg |
| From: Katie, Ms. Parrish's class, Piney Ridge Elementary Date: March 19, 2003 Time: 6:36pm Do you ever concider teaching and taking them to KIC one year? Meg Answers: Dear Katie, Well, I have considered teaching, but I'm not sure whether I will wind up being a teacher or not. I love to come and visit classrooms though! I am going to college next year and I hope to stay involved with KIC and the KIC participants. What question are you investigating? Have you discovered anything interesting? I would love to hear about your investigation! Thanks, Meg |

From: David, Mr. Kissner's Class, Robert Moton Elementary Date: December 10, 2002 Time: 5:54pm this year during kic val barata and i have desided to study impact or rockets, and were both kind of shy and we dont know what we can do to not be so afraid.WE NEED YOUR ADVISE_)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!P.S. mr.kissner said hi and that your one of the best examples hes ever had1!!thanks for the help meg,i aprietiate it_) Meg Answers: Dear David and Val, Thank you for your email. I understand your concern about being shy. I was very shy when I was in 4th grade. I loved science and I wanted to do KIC but I was a little nervous about speaking in front of people. Do you know what really helped me? I worked with my group on our investigation and the more we worked together and talked about our project, the more comfortable I got speaking in class. By the time we went to KIC I was really excited about sharing our project with other people and I realized we were all a little nervous. Everyone was so nice at KIC that I just relaxed and had a great time. I would like to learn more about your investigation. Meg |

From: Allen, Mr. Kissner's class, Robert Moton Elementary Date: December 10, 2002 Time: 2:14pm What were some of the coolest expeiraments and what did you do with polymers? Meg Answers: Dear Allen, Thank you for your email. We did a lot of experiments with polymers. At first we did experiments with different materials to make polymers. Once we knew more about what polymers were, we decided to investigate how polymers could be used to solve problems. We did a volcano experiment with polymers to see if they would slow down the lava eruption and they did. Then we tried to used polymers to help clean up an oil spill since polymers absorb liquids. Through our experiments we learned that polymers are very useful. I hope to hear more about your investigation. Meg |

From: Luis, Mr. Kissner's class, Robert Moton Elementary Date: December 10, 2002 Time: 11:53am Meg, i am interested in your experiment about polymers. Meg Answers: Dear Luis, Thank you for your email. How did you become interested in polymers? Have you read my journal and story about our polymer investigation? We did several different experiments to learn more about them. The volcano experiment was the messiest but I think the oil spill experiment was the most interesting. We were trying to investigate how polymers could be used to help clean up oil spills. I would like to know more about what you are thinking about investigating. Meg |
