Journals of the Kids' Inquiry Conference
Each year, ever since KIC first began, students have written journal articles in which they shared the details of their KIC research. These articles were published in KIC journals. These KIC journals have often served as inspiration for other students. Sometimes, students have read the journal articles and built upon an earlier research project or a suggestion that another student had made for future research. Sometimes, the earlier research sparked an interest or question, and that interest or question would be investigated by other KIC student-scientists. These journals have always been a wonderful resource for each new group of KIC participants.
But before you rush off to begin your search of the journal articles, there are a few things that you need to know. First, and most importantly, not all KIC journal articles are created equal. What do we mean by that? Well, as you read the many different articles, you will notice that they differ in many ways. How do they differ? Sometimes the difference is simply that various formats have been used. Sometimes, however, the differences involve mistakes in the article. Maybe a word is misspelled or a sentence is grammatically incorrect. Perhaps some of the students' writing isn’t as clear as others', or the investigations aren’t as thoroughly conducted. You might ask, “Why didn’t we just include the good articles?” Well, the reason is that even though some of the articles contain mistakes and even though some of them are better written than others, we wanted you to be able to see and learn from all of the articles. Sometimes instead of learning what to do you’ll see what not to do. So, we hope that you’ll keep this in mind when you are reading the articles and remember that each article appears exactly as the KIC students originally submitted it.
