What Birds Fly in Flocks

by Daniel, Larry, and Josh

The topic of this science research article is birds that fly in flocks. We became interested in this topic because there is a lot of birds that fly in flocks and it would be challenging to answer this question. We've also watched many birds that fly in flocks. During our research, we wanted to find out what birds fly in flocks.

During this school year, we put up birdfeeders in our school yard. We identified and counted birds that came to our feeders. We saw house sparrows that live in a group. We also saw birds fly overhead in flocks and solo. So, we decided to try to answer this question. We don't think anyone has researched this before for KIC.

We did several things to answer our questions. First, we went to a computer and searched the Internet but we had a hard time finding information. Next, we looked in the encyclopedia and we found some information. Later, we looked through the book, Backyard Birds, and found a lot of information. We also used the book, Cardinals. Robins, and other Birds. Finally, we have been observing birds in our neighborhood and school yard.

So far, we have found that the following birds fly in flocks: Swallows, Martins, Purple Martins, American Crows, Chickadees, Titmice, Wrens, Bluebirds, European Starlings, Red-wing Blackbirds, Common Grackles, White Crowned Sparrows, House and Purple Finches, and Mourning Doves. We know other birds fly in flocks and we are still researching,

In the future, researchers may want to find our why some birds fly in flocks and why some don't.
