What are the Favorite Birds of Students At Arbutus Elementary School?
By: Ali and Paula
Introduction
This research report is about the favorite birds of students at our school. We became interested in this topic because we wanted to know what birds were most popular in Arbutus Elementary School. For the last year we have been studying birds. We set up a bird habitat outside our school yard.
Background Information
We have bird guide books in our classroom to help us look at all the birds that we needed. Our teacher let us send out surveys to all the classroom. We got all the surveys back.
Our Experiment and What we Needed For my experiment we needed to send out surveys to all the class in Arbutus Elementary School. Our experiment was to find out what bird is most popular in Arbutus Elementary.
Procedure
First, we sent out bird surveys to all the classes in Arbutus Elementary School. Then, we put together all the information. After that, we put in on a big poster to show what birds are most popular at our school. We will post this in our school so everyone knows the results of this survey.
This is how we made our bird survey. First we looked at the birds we knew and thought other people would know. We chose ten birds and wrote their names on a survey. Then, we sent it out to all classes at Arbutus Elementary School. We received them and tallied the results.
Results and Conclusions
The bird that was most popular in Arbutus Elementary School was the Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle was probably most popular because people have seen it in pictures and it is our national symbol. Then, the Oriole was the second most popular in Arbutus Elementary School. This bird was second most popular because people know it is
our State bird and it is our baseball team, too. The Blue Jay came in third, possibly because people see them every day in the spring. The American Goldfinch came in last probably because people have not seen it often.
Future Research
In the future, researchers might try to do this study on what birds are most popular in Arbutus Elementary School. They can also look back at our research and they can compare it to their research.
