Introduction

The topic I chose for this Science research project is how dependable batteries really are. I became interested in this topic because most batteries are expensive and don't work so well. I also read in an article in last years KIC journal about batteries.

My Questions for this research project were:

• Which batteries last longest?

• Does the expensive batteries last longer than the cheap ones?

Background Information

People who already researched this topic have concluded that the Energizer battery lasts the longest. I have also found out what kind of chart to use. I recorded the time that the battery was turned on, off and the total time.

Experimentation

I did the following activities to answer my questions :

First, I checked every flashlight to make sure that they had new bulbs that wont burn out. Then, I put all the different sets of batteries in all of the flashlights. Next, I turned all flashlights on at the same exact time and recorded the time which they were turned on. Later, I turned off the flashlights and recorded the time they were turned off too. Next, I recorded the total time. I will do this

until the flashlights go off. Finally, I added up all the total times for each flashlight (battery) and found out what battery had the best endurance was the best battery and which lasted the longest.

Conclusion

From my research I learned that the most expensive battery which was the Energizer last the longest. The Everready battery qualified second. This really surprised me because this was the cheapest battery. However, the flashlight did turn dim. Duracell & Rayovac died out at 3 hours and 14 minutes. Duracell, cost just as much as the Energizer battery did.

Recommendations For Future Research

In the future, researchers might want to use different size and kinds of batteries. For Example, they can test batteries on radios, remote controls and hand held video games

Thank you for your time,
