Bacteria Fur Farm

Michael, Grade Four

My question is : "Where does bacteria grow fastest?" I am interested in this topic because I wonder where the healthiest environment exists. I predict the healthiest environment exists in the cool, dry area.

I followed these procedures:

  1. I took three hairs from my dog.
  2. I placed each of them in separate aip-lock bags.
  3. I poured water into two of the bags.
  4. I placed one of the bags with water in a dark and warm place
  5. I placed the other tow bags in the refrigerator.
  6. I let the bags sit for three weeks to allow the bacteria, if any, to grow
  7. Then I looked at the hairs with a microscope. I used the following materials to conduct my research:
    1. Three hairs from test subject (my dogs)
    2. Three zip-lock bags.
    3. Water
    4. Refrigerator
    5. Microscope (with slides)

Conclusion: Bacteria does not grow on dog hairs without any food present on the hairs.

Future question for investigation: How does the greenhouse effect actually happen?
