My topic is bacteria research. My discoveries were that you can scrape between your toes and other places to get bacteria. There are more than 1,000 kinds of bacteria. I chose this topic because it is interesting and is very fun.
The question I tried to answer was, which streak plate grows the most bacteria in the incubator? We thought of the question by our research on bacteria. My research was on the bacteria from our toes. We thought of our question from some books we read.
We read that you can streak your head and other places of your body for bacteria. We found that if you sneeze on a blood plate it will grow bacteria. I discovered that bacteria is everywhere.
To answer my question I got different plates (blood, MacConkey, EMB) which are used for growing bacteria. I streaked them with a loop and put them into the incubator. Then I watched them everyday.
The facts I discovered from my research were if you leave the plates in the incubator for 5 or more days they will dry up. I learned that if you touch a plate it will grow bacteria or maybe even mold. I did not find out which plate grows the most bacteria.
Some things other students might want to try next year are to show how to streak plates. Another question someone could try is, how much bacteria can grow on one plate?
