Mighty Magnets
By: Aron and Kelly Third Grade, Bond Mill Elementary
The topic of our investigation is magnets. We chose this topic because we just wanted to learn more about magnets.
Our question is, "How strong are certain kinds of magnets?" We thought of this because we were wondering which magnets are the strongest.
Some information we found is: Did you know that banging or heating up a magnet causes it to lose its magnetism? We didn't know that. Also, a strong magnet needs to be made in a factory. Weak magnets can become strong magnets because electricity passes through it. The world is a big magnet. A compass needle is actually made of a magnet.
To do this experiment, we followed this procedure. First, we gathered all our information and materials. Next, we made a chart to record our data. Then, we started our experimenting. Finally, we compared our data. Later, our question was answered.
We found out the strongest magnets we have are horseshoe magnets and bar magnets.
Some things we suggest are that you can try our experiment too. See if you get the same results. Another question you can try is, "How weak are certain kinds of magnets?"
