Bacteria By Kaci
My topic I'm doing is bacteria. I chose my topic because Bacteria is interesting and watching them grow is too.
The question I'm answering is, " how do bacteria grow? I thought of my topic by being in a bacteria club and watching them grow in colonies.
Bacteria were discovered by a Dutch naturalist named Anton Van Leeverhook. Did you know that some bacteria destroys healthy cells such as white and red blood cells. There are thousands of different types of bacteria and viruses. Many people think bacteria and viruses are the same thing but they are different. In fact viruses are smaller then bacteria. They come in many shapes and sizes such as ball shaped and rod shaped.
To do my research I went outside and scratched in the dirt with a cotton swab and put the cotton swab in Soy Broth. Next I scratched a BBL Stacker plate. Then I put blank disks in one full eye dropper of vinegar, one full eye dropper of baking soda solution, a pinch of detergent and a full eye dropper of water mixed and Kids Crest tooth pate and one full eye dropper of water. Blank disk are little circle shaped hole punched out paper.
Do you want to hear what got me all started on bacteria? It was being in a bacteria club what I did was take ACT#25922 bacterial slant ( a type of bacteria in a container) and took a cotton swab and twirled it around in circles in the slant. Then I dipped the cotton swab in soy broth and streaked a BBL Stacker plate and put the stacker plate in the incubator.
I learned that when you put different antibiotics such as Gm10, Obx10 and Am10 that bacteria do not grow around it and when that happens it's called a zone.
Next year you might want to try putting different types of liquid on disk to see if the liquids are a antibiotics.
