Our topic is about snakes. My partners are Alex and Brendon. We chose this topic because Brendon and I have snakes and we all want to learn a lot about them. Also I would be able to learn more about my snake. In the future I would want to know more about my snake and I could because I am researching them now. Snakes have always amazed me when I was little so this is my chance to learn more about them. Plus, I had my snake for 1 year already and I do not know that much about him. So that is why my topic is about snakes.

The exact question we are trying to answer is, what is the different eating habits between a California King and a Ball Python? I thought of this question when Brendon and I were talking and we just thought of researching snakes. Then, we just ended up researching this topic for KIC. We also thought it would come in handy because we wanted to know what the best was to care for snakes it.

Our topic, snakes, is an interesting topic. Snakes are a long, slender, crawling reptile without limbs. Snakes have lots of bones, most of them are ribs. Snakes are not slimy reptiles. They are very dry and scaly. They have about 2,000 scales an more. Snakes eat whatever they can find or whatever the owner gives it. For example, the largest python can swallow a whole leopard. A large python can swallow a 40-pound pig. Some snakes have teeth so small you can’t even see them without a microscope.

To answer my question, I first gave my snake a little mouse. Next, I videotaped him eating and I did this about three times. Then, I recorded information on how he eats and how fast he ate the mouse. I later tried to give him a bigger mouse that was medium size. Finally, I examined my snake, that is a Ball Python and California King Snake and I found out that both these snakes are very different. I found this out because a Ball Python rears back and strikes at the mouse and a California King Snake doesn’t.

I learned that when a Ball Python eats they rear back, then it comes forward to eat the arch enemy. The California King Snake doesn’t. It took 15 seconds to find the mouse and attack it. It took about one minute and 40 seconds to swallow the mouse whole. My snake eats one medium mouse a week. The Ball Python curls up to get more power to kill the mouse.

Future students might try to see if it matters when you feed a snake a bigger mouse and see if the snake has any effect on how they ear. You can also research their growth. I still don’t know how many inches it grows a year. In conclusion, snakes are very interesting reptiles.
