Rusty Nails

By Jade, 4th Grade

My KIC project was very interesting. First, my topic was nail corrosion. Also, I chose nail corrosion because I thought it would be original.

Next, my question was will a nail corrode faster in Coke, Water, or Orange Juice? I came up with this question by talking with my family.

Then, I used cookbooks that said Coke can clean out a lot of stuff, and we used out prior knowledge to know about my topic before I started.

First, to answer my problem I gathered my materials. Second, I got water, Coke, and orange juice. Next, I typed up my data. Got out three cups. Then, I put three nails in three cups. Later, I recorded my data. Finally, I measured the nails and put together my presentation.

I learned that Coke will bend nails, water made it rust the fasted, and orange juice made it rust a little bit.

I think if I had more time a nail might corrode, and an easier way to know if a nail might have corroded is to use a scale or something like that. Another idea is you could use a nail and fresh water, salt water, and lemonade to see if it corrodes.
