Have you ever wondered if a male or female rabbit eats more? I am researching an investigation entitles “Eating Habits of Rabbits.” I am working with my partner Katie. I chose this topic because I love rabbits and Katie has two of them. They happen to be a male and a female. The male’s name is Pepper and the female is TD. We are going to give them the same amount of rabbit pellet food. Then we will see which rabbits will eat the most food in the fastest time.
My question is, “Which male or female rabbit eats more food if there is the same amount of food?” I thought of this question because of curiosity. Ever since I saw my friend’s rabbits I wondered which rabbit eats more. I also made an hypothesis that the male rabbit would eat more.
From other resources, I found out that there are many kinds of foods that you can feed a rabbit. You can feed a rabbit hay, oats, rabbit pellets, carrots, grass and clover. It is very important that you give a rabbit water to drink. Hay is good for a rabbit because it contains roughage. It is also very important that you don’t give a rabbit fresh hay. Oats are important because they boost up the process to become healthy. Carrots, grass, and clover are treats. The most important food is rabbit pellets. They contain nutrients, minerals, trace elements, and vitamins.
First, we gave the rabbits half a cup of Warner Feed rabbit pellet food once a day. Next, we watched how much the rabbits ate in two weeks. Then, we weighed the rabbits to see what they weighed after eating. Later we tried the same things for eight more weeks. Finally, we made charts about how much they weighed after a ten week period.
I learned that a female rabbit eats more than a male rabbit. TD always finished her whole bowl of food every day. Pepper finished half his food. It takes about two to tress weeks. In the beginning TD weighed three pounds and Pepper weighed two pounds. In the end TD weighed four pounds and Pepper weighed three pounds.
Things you can try next year is do the same investigation with one male an one female adult rabbit and one male and one female baby rabbit. We wanted to try that but we didn’t have a male or female baby rabbit. You could research another question like “which male or female rabbit will eat more and which male or female baby rabbit eats more.
