My topic for KIC is magnets. I picked magnet research because I have a lot of information on magnets and I thought it would be fun to research for KIC. In my research I will explain exactly what magnets and magnetism are.
When I was having inquiry time in the magnets box I thought of a question. Can I make a magnet carry more than it’s own weight and if I can how much more weight? I have been working on the question ever since that day.
In my research I have found that a magnet has a north and a south pole. When a north and south pole come together they accept each other and slide together. When poles of the same type are put together they refuse each other and push away. When a magnet arrtacts something it’s called magnetism. Magnetism is the force that pulls magnetic objects together.
In my investigation on magnets was a success! I have found out that a magnet can carry more than it’s own weight. I found this out by first weighing the magnets then weighing the magnetic object. I got the magnet to magnetically pull the object.
In my investigation I learned many new things about magnets. One interesting thing is making sparks. I can do this because the magnetic force brings down the magnet so fast that it creates a lot of friction and makes sparks. My topic for KIC is very fun and I hope to look further into it.
I would like to suggest a question for future students to answer. Does it matter how much a magnet weighs to affect it magnetic pull? This is a question I wanted to answer but did not have time.
