EYES

My topic for KIC is eye color. I chose the question I did because everybody has an eye color and nobody really pays much attention to it.

My question is, "Do people tend to like the color of their eyes as their favorite color?". I thought of this question at home one evening. I was sitting down when it popped into my head. I knew it was not in any other KIC journals so I knew it would be a new question.

The eye is an organ in the skull that consists of the cornea, iris, pupil, retina, lens, optic nerve, macula, and vitreous. These parts are protected by the eyelids, eyebrows, and eyelashes. These parts are all very fragile and need to be properly taken care of. Some common eye malfunctions are nearsightedness and farsightedness. Nearsightedness is when people see closer objects in detail, but farther objects appear blurred. Farsightedness is just the opposite. Both of these can be fixed by laser eye surgery or eyeglasses.

I did many things to answer my question. First, I gathered data from fourth and fifth grades. Next, I organized the data. Then, I came to the conclusion, as seen in my graph, that more people dislike their eye color compared to their favorite color. Finally, I wrote my article.

My first fact I discovered was that the answer to my question is no, people's eye color is not the same as their favorite color. Another fact is that laser correction cart be very painful. It says in the book Eyes, that laser correction is actually the cutting of the cornea to let fluids drain.

Next year's students might want to survey first through fifth graders instead of just fourth and fifth grade students. This would provide more data to help substantiate my findings. A new question for next year's kids would be, "Does eye color affect a person's personality?" To answer this question, you could observe someone's personality and then ask their eye color.
