The Basalization of Science
Donna Dieckman
Montgomery County, Maryland, Public Schools
In the past 10 years a number
of publishers have created books to complement hands-on science units
or books that 'stand-in' for hands-on learning. In this session we
examine these texts in terms of their content, coherence, readability,
and notions of the nature of science they embody. These 'science
readers' will be compared to trade books on the same topics and
purchasing decisions undertaken by schools will be discussed.
